The Texas Department of Transportation announced Thursday that it has awarded a $1.2 million emergency contract to SCR Civil Construction, LLC, to repair the Bardin Road bridge in Arlington.
The Bardin Road bridge (over State Highway 360 near the city limits of Arlington and Grand Prairie) was severely damaged by fire last November.
Night work will begin this month in preparation for the reconstruction of the bridge and with the manufacturing of bridge beams at an off-site location. Once the bridge beams are complete, work will then continue on-site.
Occasional nighttime closures of the westbound Interstate 20 ramp to southbound State Highway 360 will be necesary during construction, which is expected to be complete by this spring.
The construction contact includes incentives for early completion as well as penalties for late completion, according to TxDOT.
The next construction update is expected in March.
TxDOT spokesman Val Lopez said the agency apologizes for the inconvenience the closure is causing and appreciates the patience of drivers as the bridge is repaired.
