The Tarrant County Asian American Chamber of Commerce is providing community members preventative healthcare screenings, networking opportunities, and Asian cultural entertainment, all under one roof.
This year'Eggroll Festival, Business Expo., and Health Fair will feature ethnic dances and music performances, flu shots, business exhibits, and a dessert contest, TCAACC Vice President of Events and Corporate Relations Paul Parisot said. The chamber has been hosting the event every fall for nearly 20 years.
Parisot said TCAACC combines the Health Fair and the Eggroll Festival in order to provide unique opportunities to those interested in only one or the other to be exposed to everything the chamber has to offer. Volunteer medical professionals will provide free screenings, and flu shots will also be available. These medical screenings are a great resource for immigrants new to the area, he said.
"Many of the attendees, especially those who are new immigrants to this country may not see a doctor on a regular basis for preventative care or may be reluctant to do so because of language barriers," Parisot said. "The festival'health care screenings give them a chance to receive a medical exam in a non-emergency situation."
Parisot said TCAACC hosts the event to highlight the Asian-American cultures in Tarrant County and Arlington, as well as to support Asian-American businesses. Traditional Vietnamese dances, the Chinese Dragon Dance, and performances representative of the Philippines, Korea, and Thailand are among the performances attendees can enjoy.
Those in attendance will also be able to visit business exhibits, city officials, along with other business and community leaders.
"In addition to supporting Asian-American businesses, we believe it'our mission to pursue a broader range of civic and social activities that promote recognition and understanding of the many Asian cultures in our community," Parisot said.
The event will be held at the Vietnamese Catholic Martyrs Church Hall, 801 E Mayfield, on Saturday, October 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free. For more information, call Liem Tran at 214-531-3839, Yen Nguyen at 817-797-9144, or Oscar Macaraeg at 817-718-3154, or visit www.tcaacc.com.
