From open to close, the East Arlington Branch is full of people, activities and sounds. Visit this branch to hear keyboards clacking on the public computers, robot engines whirring during technology workshops, librarians singing in bilingual storytimes, and now, more laughter and learning in programs and workshops. The East Arlington Branch is making changes to its programming spaces to better support the needs of families and adult learners.
Family Room, a new offering in the Gene and Jerry Jones Youth Technology Center, is a chance for families enjoy time together while using Library resources.
"During Family Room, we fill the space with fun toys that children and caregivers can use together,"says Bethany Fort, Library Services Manager. Family Room features toys like blocks, magnets, balance rockers, puppets and more. "Children learn through play, so we're excited to give families this opportunity."
Parents can also check out a laptop at the front desk to use in the Family Room. This will allow families to stay together in the same space while adults work and children play.
The Family Room is open select days until May. Join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m. Family Room hours will expand beginning in summer 2018. Click here to see the full Family Room schedule.
The East Arlington Branch will also be offering more classes and workshops in the Family Learning Lab. Keep an eye out for adult education classes such as English as a Second Language as they move into the Family Learning Lab. The computers previously in this space have been removed and will be relocated to the new Downtown Library, which is set to open in June of 2018.
Computer classes that were held in the FLL will meet on the TechLiNK mobile computing bus. Click here to learn more about computer classes. Thirty eight public computers are still available at the branch.
As east Arlington grows and changes, the East Arlington Branch will keep adapting to community needs. These new options for event spaces will be full of free learning and engagement opportunities. Click here to find events at the East Arlington Branch.
