Arlington Parks and Recreation will kick off its Food Truck Fridays this week with a German twist.

Residents are invited to attend the Sister Cities of Arlington 65^th Anniversary Picnic and Food Truck Fridays Oktoberfest from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, September 23 at the Bad K nigshofen Pavilion in S.J. Stovall Park, 2800 W. Sublett Road.

This is the third year that a Food Truck Friday event has featured an Oktoberfest theme, city officials said. This year, Arlington is celebrating a milestone anniversary with Bad K nigshofen, which has been our German Sister City since 1951.

In addition to traditional food truck fare, such as pizza, and desserts, vendors will serve German foods and Oktoberfest/ fall brew style beer. Please visit the event website for a full food truck lineup. While parking and entrance to the picnic is free, food trucks and other vendors will accept cash or card for purchases.

In addition to the Sept. 23 kickoff, Food Truck Fridays will be held at Stovall Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 30, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14. Food Truck Fridays will then move to 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Founders Plaza in Downtown Arlington on Oct. 21, Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11.

'Food Truck Fridays provide the opportunity for residents to come out and enjoy good food and fun in our wonderful city parks during the cooler fall weather,' said Bob Abbott, Parks and Recreation Special Events Coordinator.

During the Sept. 23 picnic, visitors will be able to shop for shirts, hats and more in the Soulful Gypsy fashion truck. Visitors will be also able to purchase 65^th anniversary commemorative items, such as coins, t-shirts and hats, to honor Arlington's long-standing friendship with Bad K nigshofen.

Stovall Park's amenities, including sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, and playground, will be open while visitors enjoy the sounds of the German Band of North Texas. The band will play traditional German Oom-pah and Polka music. In addition, there will be a German-themed photo opportunity where visitors can snap a picture and tag the Sister Cities' Facebook page.

'Sister Cities members love to share the story of how the friendship began and continues,' said Ellen Brooke, staff liaison to the Sister Cities of Arlington, Texas.

Visitors may bring friendly dogs on a leash. Other suggested items include camping chairs, picnic blankets and insect repellent.
