Make A Rain Barrel, Get Fall Gardening Advice at Upcoming Classes in Arlington

Arlington Water Utilities and the Arlington Public Library are hosting a series of classes this fall to help residents learn more about how to boost the water efficiency of their outdoor spaces. The classes are co-sponsored by the Tarrant Regional Water District, the City's wholesale water provider. Other program partners include the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association and Texas A&M AgriLife's Water University.

  • Herb Your Enthusiasm: Herb Gardening - 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct.18, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S. Center St.
  • Drip Irrigation: Water Efficient Landscape - 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Lake Arlington Branch Library, 4000 W. Green Oaks Blvd.

Arlington Water is also hosting a "Bagels and Barrels" rain barrel making class 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S. Center St.

Learn the basics and benefits of rainwater harvesting and environmental effects of stormwater from Texas A&M AgriLife's Water University. Participants will have the opportunity to make their own 55-gallon rain barrel. Bagels and coffee will be provided.

This class is hands-on DIY and each participant can take home a barrel(s) at $50 each. Pre-payment is required.
