Any astronomy lovers out there? Come and try out a variety of telescopes, look at visible planets and constellations with The Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area at 2021 W. Abram St. in Arlington this weekend! Guests will also have the option to make s'mores, drink hot chocolate, and roast hot dogs. You're invited to bring your lawn chair and flashlight and wear your warm coat and gloves! This event runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 3 and is free to attend.
Arlington's first pop-up gallery series will launch in Downtown Arlington this Saturday, February 3 from 6-9 p.m. at 200 E Division St, Arlington, TX 76011. The inaugural pop-up gallery will feature a collection of works by renowned artist and painter, Donray. A pop-up gallery is by definition a venue that is temporary. In the same vein, Christopher Hightower Gallery will "pop up" in different spaces around Downtown Arlington according to the needs of the artist and art represented in each exhibition.
Head over to Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club in Downtown Arlington for two nights of live music this weekend. On Friday night, Velvet Love Box will take the stage at 9 p.m. The group features three veteran musicians from the north Texas area: guitarist/vocalist Scot Cloud, percussionist/vocalist Brandon Bumpas, and vocalist/bassist Neil Schnell. On Saturday night, residents and visitors can check out 57 Sauce, a hometown band that started up in 2012. Check out the work by local artists Steve Moya and Christie Neale now through February 25 at Arlington Music Hall in Downtown. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Neale was trained in oil painting, which was her medium of choice for 20 years. She then began experimenting with resin after she was inspired by the courage of wounded veterans. For Steve Moya, painting iconic rockers and capturing the feel of them performing has been the focus of his work over the past 10 years. Residents and visitors are invited to hear Breaking Light record a live album for the RPM Challenge this Friday, February 2 in Downtown Arlington at 7 p.m. The live album recording is free to attend. Breaking Light is described as "a totally improvised electric guitar experiment with loop pedals, EBow and multi-stage delays." On Saturday, February 3, 2:14 returns to Truth Vinyl at 6:30 p.m. Brian, Shel, and Motty play covers by bands like Evanescence, Pvris, and MS MR. Full of zany moments and lots of fun, Maverick Theatre Company's Flight 12 Improv has a style that promises to be outrageous and never stale. This 12 member troupe features students from UT Arlington and is directed by Associate Professor Joe Chapa. Flight 12 entertains with original sketches, long and short improvisation and audience participation. Emmy Award- winning comedienne Vicki Lawrence brings one of the most beloved television personalities to the Arlington Music Hall stage in Downtown this Friday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. After the "Carol Burnett Show," Vicki went on to star in "Mama's Family," which consistently topped the ratings for its entire six-year run of original shows. The character of Thelma Harper or "Mama" as she is better known has attained almost a cult status among her legions of loyal television viewers. UTA Planetarium continues to offer shows to residents and visitors.
