Code Compliance is Putting Technology To Work through an Esri powered Geographic Information System (GIS) application. Esri, deemed the world's most powerful mapping and analytics software, recently recognized Arlington's Dangerous and Substandard Structures (DSS) Program interactive story map in their global newsletter.

"The creation of the City of Arlington's DSS story map has increased efficiency, responsiveness, and transparency for Arlington's citizens and business community," Neighborhood Services Analyst Carol Weemes said. "Esri's amazing mapping technology provided the platform to advance from publishing a static map and list image of DSS properties on our website, to sharing informative, interactive maps for the public."

The DSS team works citywide to bring properties posing a risk to public health into compliance for safer, more visually appealing neighborhoods. Requests for lists of DSS properties that previously utilized staff resources are now easily accessed on the Open Arlington Portal. The downloadable dataset is available 24/7.
