Arlington residents approved the City's proposed $189 million bond program and a citizen-led initiative to establish term limits for the Mayor and Arlington City Council, according to unofficial voting results.
The five-year bond program, listed as Propositions A, B, C, and D on the Nov. 6, 2018, Joint Bond and Special Elections ballot, will provide funding to renovate, rebuild, and update public facilities throughout The American Dream City.
Proposed projects include $137.8 million for streets and sidewalks, $19 million for parks and recreation, $24.5 million for public safety facilities and $8 million for maintenance at various city facilities. The program will not increase the City's property tax rate.
A summary of bond projects and list of Frequently Asked Questions is available on the City's 2018 Bond Program information page. The amounts identified for each project are estimated amounts and the City of Arlington may reallocate the amounts among various projects listed or substitute other projects of a similar nature in accordance with the respective bond proposition.
Voters also approved Proposition E, according to unofficial voting totals. The City Charter term-limit amendment provides that no person shall:
- serve as Mayor for more than three elected terms
- serve as a Council Member for more than three elected terms
- serve for more than twelve years in combination as a Council Member and Mayor
The Mayor and the eight City Council members are elected to serve two-year terms.
