To recognize youth who are spreading kindness throughout The American Dream City, Arlington's Community Relations Commission has partnered with local businesses and launched a program that rewards students for their kind hearts.
During a pep rally Thursday, Dec. 13 at Dunn Elementary in Arlington, the Commission surprised two students, Tiffany Whited and Lilyauna Armitage, with a pair of premium Rangers tickets each. The Commission then announced that a choir class would receive a Chick-Fil-A catered ice-skating party at Parks Mall because of the acts of kindness they had performed during the school year.
"When you reward someone for being kind and showing their true colors in a sense that no one is watching and it is who they are, it sticks with kids forever," said Mary Helen Burnett, Dunn Elementary principal.
The Community Relations Commission has been working to promote acts of kindness among our residents, visitors and business community since Mayor Jeff Williams announced the Kindness Initiative last year. People are encouraged to report acts of kindness that they perform, witness or were the recipient of through the City's Ask Arlington mobile app, on the Acts of Kindness website, or by posting on social media using #ArlingtonKindness and @CityofArlington.
