A new neighborhood park with a concrete loop hike and bike trail, nature-themed playground, picnic tables, benches and other amenities is now open in southeast Arlington.
Harris Road Park, located at 907 W. Harris Road between Cooper Street and Matlock Road, also includes a lighted parking lot with automated access gate, a bicycle rack, a drinking fountain near the playground, permanent irrigation system, open areas, landscape improvements and shade trees.
The 12-acre park features shaded playground equipment that offers educational nature panels and musical instruments for children to experience. In addition to swings, the park has two play areas specially geared for children ages 2 to 5 years and 5 to 12 years. The playground area leads to a path, through the shade areas, to offer varied nature-play opportunities.
This project, which aligns with the City Council priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods, was funded through park impact fees. A park dedication ceremony is planned for early Summer 2019.
