Mission Statement
The mission of the AHA is to advocate for and pursue affordable housing opportunities for the maximum number of low-income individuals and families in Arlington by:
- establishing partnerships with public and private community service providers; maintaining and encouraging additional housing choices;
- effectively communicating with internal and external constituencies;
- attracting and retaining knowledgeable staff and Board members by supporting professional development and personal opportunities; and
- maintaining and improving fiscal accountability and operational efficiency.
AHA will serve the community and create an environment in which all citizens may support and participate in achieving the AHA vision.
Function
The AHA Board of Commissioners is the policy-making body of the AHA, similar to a board of a private corporation. Members are considered public officials of the community. They are appointed by the Mayor and may serve for three two-year terms. The Resident Commissioner is appointed for a maximum of two two-year terms per the state Local Government Code (Vernon's Texas Codes Annotated).
