The Arlington Police Department responded to multiple crashes in the eastbound lanes in the 4300 block of W. I.H. 20 on Saturday, February 16, 2019 around 10 p.m. Officers arrived on scene and located a total of six vehicles which had stopped along the freeway and were believed to be involved in multiple crashes.

Investigators believe that there were a total of three crashes. During the initial crash, two vehicles were involved including a pickup and passenger car. In the second crash, the driver of the passenger car that was struck by the pickup, a 37-year old man, exited his vehicle and went to the rear of the car which had stopped in the main lanes of the freeway. Investigators believe the driver was attempting to push the passenger car to the shoulder when he, along with his vehicle, were struck by a third passenger car.

Immediately following this secondary crash, a third crash occurred with multiple vehicles in which investigators believe were trying to avoid the previous crash scenes. All three of the crashes were separate but interrelated. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.

Three main lanes of the freeway were closed for approximately five hours while the investigation unfolded. This complex series of crashes remain under investigation.
