Discover Summer

Arlington Public Library's Discover Summer is returning from June 1 to July 31, 2024. Everyone is invited to enjoy fun activities all summer long. Free programs, classes, experiences, and more will be available for all ages. Whether you're a lifelong resident or new to the area, you are invited to join for an amazing summer of fun, learning, and community engagement! Six Flags Hurricane Harbor 

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, the largest waterpark in North Texas, is open daily for the 2024 season daily through Sunday, Aug. 11 and then will be open during Saturday and Sunday the rest of August. Hurricane Harbor offers guests more than 40 rides, slides, attractions, and pools across a sprawling 47 acres with three million gallons of water. Families can enjoy the adventures of Splashwater Beach and Hook’s Lagoon and experienced thrill seekers can take on Tsunami Surge, Typhoon Twister and Wahoo Racer. One of the park’s newest attractions is Banzai Pipeline, a four-story waterslide complex boasting three unique body slides that will spin, splash, and swirl guests down nearly 300-feet. Theoria Eclipsium: Curiosity, Captivation, Connection

UTA Libraries Special Collections is proud to present Theoria Eclipsium: Curiosity, Captivation, Connection, an exhibition featuring over 500 years of Eclipse History! The exhibition features maps, rare books, and photographs from Special Collections and shows that regardless of time period or scientific knowledge, eclipses bring us together! This exhibition was produced in collaboration with students in Dr. Kim Breuer's Medieval Science and Technology class. The exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., inside UTA Libraries Special Collections, on the sixth floor of Central Library until Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024. Eclipse glasses and other giveaway items will be available for viewers of the exhibit, while supplies last.

Emerge Art Exhibition presents Joshua Montgomery

The Emerge Art Exhibition series is proud to present the amazing works of Joshua Montgomery. His show, NARR.ART.IVE, will be on display in the Dr. Marcelo Cavazos Center for Visual & Performing Arts Art Gallery July 10 – 23. Viewing hours are Monday – Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm. Walk with a Doc (50+ yrs)

Get moving! Join volunteers and representatives from Sixty & Better to take a morning walk every 3rd Friday around the East Library and Recreation Center from 10-10:45 a.m. All levels of mobility are welcome, and you will get the opportunity to speak to a doctor about developing healthier habits. Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library for a playfully discover the world around us! Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. American Red Cross Blood Drive

Help save lives and bring relief to thousands in your community by donating at this blood drive hosted by the American Red Cross 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s [re]Brary Room A & B. Donating blood is quick and easy and donors report feeling a sense of great satisfaction after making their blood donation. Tween Design Club

Architecture! Fashion! Movie sets! Book covers! Websites! Inventions! Theme parks! Whether it's the buildings we live in, the vehicles we ride, the clothes we wear, or the objects we use, design is all around us. This club is dedicated to the design thinkers of the future. This summer, the Arlington Public Library will gather each week to focus on one interesting topic to explore, then we will develop our own unique designs based on these discussions. The event takes place 2-3 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Children Play Room. For ages 9-13 ONLY. No registration necessary. Creativity Corner 

Swing by the Southeast Branch Library 3-4:45 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, and dive into your creativity with this school-age through teen process art program. Each week will have a theme and sensory element to offer us inspiration and guidance as you work to make an original piece of art using a wide array of supplies (including but not limited to buttons, pipe cleaners, baking soda paint, watercolors, yarn). Creativity Corner is part of our Supporting Neurodivergent Access to Programming series.  Because this program uses hot glue and some small-sized craft supplies, it is not recommended for very young children. Mario Kart Tournament 

Get your Karts ready! The Northeast Branch Library will be hosting a Mario Kart tournament for teens 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024. Race against others to see who comes out on top. We'll be setting up a bracket-style tournament for teens to compete against each other. We will be playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch. No Switch required to participate. This program is open to teens ages 13-17 only. Controllers will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Friday Night Splash Party

Dive into the excitement at the Beacon's monthly Friday Night Splash Party 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024. Join under the stars at the splash pad for an evening filled with music, laughter, and delicious eats. Bring your friends and family for a fun-filled night of splashing and dancing to the rhythm of the beats. With a featured food truck offering delectable treats (don't forget to bring cash or card for purchases), you'll satisfy your cravings while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. Open Mic & Mocktails

Calling all comedians, poets, singers, and musicians to showcase your talent at open mic night at the Woodland West Library 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024. Whether you're a newcomer or seasoned performer, enjoy a supportive, intimate space to strut your stuff in front of a captive audience. Come out, show out, and enjoy some good vibes from Arlington's local talent. Mocktails and light snacks will be served. Performer registration starts at 6pm in person.

All Elite Wrestling presents Collision

A night at an All-Elite Wrestling show is packed with action 6:30 p.m. July 26-27, 2024, at Esports Stadium Arlington. Then, Ring of Honor takes place Sunday, July 28, 2024. Boasting an impressive roster of diverse male and female wrestlers, All Elite Wrestling features a wide variety of wrestling styles and twist-filled plots. A typical AEW night involves being right there for the broadcast of its flagship TBS show, AEW Dynamite, AEW Rampage on TNT, or the newest TNT show, AEW Collision. Be there live to see all the athleticism, big personalities, exciting storylines, and hard-hitting wrestling action that has become synonymous with AEW and expect a night of epic rivalries and unforgettable matches with all the stars you love to watch. 

Fluid Art

 Fluid art or pour painting with acrylic is a fun and exciting way to create beautiful abstract art 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at Catalyst Creative Arts. You will use various colored and premixed acrylic paints on a 16 x 20 or 18 x 24-inch canvas. Our artists will instruct you through several fluid art techniques and work with you as you complete your project. Paintings will be left to dry for 72 hours at the studio and then varnished by our artist before they can be picked up. No experience necessary. Recommended for 8 years and up. All materials provided.

Rangers host Baltimore Orioles     

Your hometown Rangers host the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game weekend set at Globe Life Field 7:05 p.m. Friday, July 19, 6:05 p.m. Saturday, July 20, and 1:35 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024. Ticket information can be found on the Rangers’ website

Pet Adoptions Event 

Join Arlington Animal Services mobile adoption truck will be at PetSmart at Lincoln Square with furry friends to meet 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024. Stop by to visit with an adoptable pet to get some pet therapy and possibly a forever friend. Cannot make it to the event? Spice Club

Learn about Spice Blends 12-1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Southeast Branch Library’s Community Room. Learn different ways to spice things up in your kitchen. At Spice Club, you will learn about a different spice every month. Attend to discover a spice and receive a take-and-make kit featuring a variety of unique spices, herbs, or blends. Check out new cookbooks and recipes or bring a favorite recipe of yours to share! This month, you will learn about: Dill.

Each kit will include:

  • Information about the featured spice, its history with a few facts;
  • two simple recipe suggestions;
  • Small packet of the featured spice to try.

Spice of the month kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household. No registration required.

Crochet for Beginners Ages 9+

Jump into the hobby of crochet! Staff at the Arlington Public Library will teach you about hooks, yarn, and basic stitches to get you started on your journey. This class is limited to the first 11 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 9+. The event takes place 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room.

Lego Free Play

Build something tall, wide or anything you can dream of using Lego blocks! Join for an afternoon of fun, imagination, and creativity 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch. This is a come and go program for ages 5-12 and space is limited. Feral Cat Sunday 

Arlington Animal Services is having a special Trap-Neuter-Return event for feral cats in Arlington 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Arlington Animal Services Center. The first 20 cats to arrive between 8-9 a.m. are eligible for these free clinics. Only the first 20 Arlington feral cats will be accepted, and only one feral cat per trap. Kittens must be at least three (3) months old. Ferals must be in a trap. Learn more about the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program at https://www.arlingtontx.gov/tnr, or call 817-575-8131. 

Sunday Brunch

Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon French toast and served with maple syrup! Guests can also order off of our à la carte menu, making the Sunday Brunch a great option for families, picky eaters or those with smaller appetites. Reservations Welcomed: 817-548-5047.
