Forever Forest Visiting Exhibit
Forever Forest by Omaha Children’s Museum, is an immersive exhibit that teaches families how their everyday lives are connected to forests through the ways they live, work, and play. Families will enjoy hands-on activities focused on forest life and sustainable harvesting. Visit the River Legacy Nature Center to explore the forest like never before. Climb, crawl and slide on treetops, become a conductor for a day and work a kid-sized replica of a Union Pacific engine, or work together to build a house as you learn about the many things wood is used for! In its 13th year, the Texas Christkindl Market, presented by Reliable Commercial Construction, is a free, family friendly market in Arlington featuring a unique shopping experience for holiday gifts, decorations, and one-of-a-kind finds. A Christmas Carol: The Radio Show at Theatre Arlington
Catch A Christmas Carol: The Radio Show at Theatre Arlington. It’s Christmas Eve, and with the actors snowed in and unable to make it to the studios of WXMS for the live radio performance of A Christmas Carol, the sound effects person decides to take the audience through the classic tale himself. In an impressive and amusing feat, this telling is performed as a 1940s radio play with one person providing all of the characters’ voices and sound effects. This rollicking, creative adaptation of Dickens’ classic work is sure to warm the hearts of even the chilliest audience members. The show ends Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, and then 2 p.m. Sundays. The Saturday, Dec. 9 performance will take place at 2 pm, as Theatre Arlington will be participating in the Arlington Parade of Lights on that evening. Pilsners & Pickleball Social
Join the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department for a night of open play pickleball with prizes, beer, games, food trucks, music and more 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at the Arlington Tennis Center. It is a $5 entry fee per person. Registration required. Registration includes court access for open play pickleball. Friday Night Skate is back 7 p.m. every Friday at Elzie Odom Athletic Center. This event is for ages 13 and younger, and the cost is $20 per child. Pre-registration is required. Chess Club Tournament
The Arlington Public Library’s Chess Club is excited to offer this tournament 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at the Ron Wright Lake Arlington Library Branch. Students between the ages of 7 and 16 are invited to participate in this five-round, Swiss-style, non-elimination tournament. No Fee required, but players need to register for tournament between 9:30-9:45 a.m. on event day. First round begins at 10 a.m. with other rounds following as games are finished. Students have a chance to play five games. Plaques will be awarded to the 1st through 5th place winners! Plaques provided by Arlington Chess Club.

Pet Adoptions at The Highlands PetSmart
Join Arlington Animal Services inside PetSmart at Arlington Highlands for a tail-wagging, family-friendly, pet-saving community event 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. Adorable adoptable pets looking for new homes will be available inside PetSmart and ready for immediate adoption. Tool Maintenance and Pruning
This event takes place 6:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Excellence Multipurpose Room. There may not be many plants growing during the winter, but there are still plenty of thing to do in your garden. You can do preparatory work like pruning and tool maintenance during the winter to be ready for spring. Join our free class to learn more. You will learn when and why to prune, which plants to prune, proper techniques for pruning different plants, tools needed for a successful garden, and how to maintain gardening tools to get the best job out of them.
