After careful deliberation, the Arlington Public Library Juneteenth Community Archive Project Team has decided to move forward with item collection as a virtual activity. We will provide the ability to submit items in a contactless way in order to ensure the health and safety of our community. For those wishing to drop of items in person, we will have a drop-off hour on Dec. 5 and 14 from 11 a.m. to noon. We encourage everyone to either make an appointment to bring in items or to submit items via the item collection form. If you wish to drop items off in person, please wear a mask.
“The goal of this project is to make sure Arlington and the surrounding areas’ rich Black history is not lost and that it is well-documented and preserved,” stated project lead Mark Dellenbaugh, Genealogy and Local History Librarian.
Please call the Genealogy and Local History department to schedule a time to bring in your items at 817-459-6795. Documenting Juneteenth celebrations is the stated focus, but we welcome any items that help us better preserve and tell the story of Arlington and the surrounding areas’ Black history.
The library is working in partnership with the Fielder House Museum, the Arlington Heritage Memorial Grounds Corporation, and the Arlington Genealogy Society. The Library continues to reach out to other community partners. If your group or organization wishes to participate by helping with outreach or organize a pick up time of items, please contact Mark Dellenbaugh at [email protected]. Interested individuals may also help with outreach efforts.
There will be a presentation and celebration of the project on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Community members will be able to view the complete digital collection in the virtual gallery on the Arlington Public Library website www.arlingtonlibrary.org.
