Arlington’s Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) worked with residents to remove 2.18 tons (4,360 pounds) of trash and debris from the High Park Village community on Nov. 4, 2023.
Since NET began in January 2019, Code Compliance with other city departments, community partners, volunteers, Republic Services and more, have removed almost 148 tons (295,600 pounds) of waste from Arlington residential neighborhoods.
“This neighborhood event was such a blessing and truly was needed,” said Andrea Black, one of the first families to reside in High Park Village. Black expressed that she was extremely impressed with all the services that the city has to offer. “The Tool Sharing Program is so beneficial for people only needing to borrow a tool for a single use and not having to purchase the item.”
City Council member Long Pham, Council District 6, participated in this community event located in East Arlington off of E. Arkansas Lane and Carter Drive. Pham regularly volunteers his time, working hard at NET cleanup initiatives citywide.
A total of five residential households received special assistance from the team at this event. Lawns with high grass were mowed, and trees hanging too low, or protruding into streets were trimmed. A variety of 12 tools were checked out from the city’s tool sharing trailer to assist with the cleanup. “My house looks a hundred percent nicer due to your program,” said a resident recovering from an arm injury. This resident wasn’t able to participate in the cleanup of his front yard because of his injury but expressed that he would like to volunteer at a future event.
Retired Librarian David Jackson with Community Advocating for Prosperity and Opportunity (CAPO) is popular at NET events. During the block party, he handed out 80 free children’s books benefitting the community.
