Visitors to Arlington's Fielder Park will soon see new playground equipment and a new play surface below.
City Council members approved plans at the August 6 meeting to upgrade the existing playground equipment, which was installed in 1997.
The new equipment includes multiple climbing and spinning components plus safer versions of playground classics, including slides and swings. It will also meet current American Society for Testing and Materials standards along with Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines.
Crews will also add artificial turf under the equipment, making Fielder Park the first in Arlington to feature turf as the primary play surface.
The new turf and playground equipment are expected to be installed by the end of fall 2019.
The work aligns with the City Council priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods.
Fielder Park is located at 1100 South Fielder Road.
