Arlington Police Department's Fall Drug Take Back Set for Oct. 26, 2024

The Arlington Police Department is hosting a prescription drug collection event at four collection sites in coordination with the US DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day. Residents can participate in an anonymous, safe disposal between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.

By properly and safely disposing your expired and unused medications, you can help prevent accidental overdoses. The Drug Take Back event also helps Arlington Water Utilities protect Arlington’s water supply by encouraging proper drug disposal.

Collection sites for the Oct. 26 event are:

• Walgreens: 4400 W. Green Oaks Blvd.
• Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center: 620 W. Division St.
• Medical City Arlington: 3301 Matlock Road (Lot A)
• South Arlington Police Service Center: 1030 SW Green Oaks Blvd.

Disposal Guidelines

Accepted:

• Controlled, non-controlled, and over-the-counter medications for humans or pets
• All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers (please keep liquid products, such as cough syrups, sealed in original containers)
• Single Use, Auto-Injectors (such as Epi Pens)
• Vapes

Not Accepted:

• Intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes and medical equipment
• Illicit substances, such as marijuana or methamphetamine
• Pressurized cartridges such as inhalers

Tips

• Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box.
• Removing labels or repackaging is unnecessary as all disposal boxes will remain sealed and will be incinerated.
• All participants must retain possession of their own medication during the surrender process.

Naloxone and Prescription Medication Lock Boxes

Unity Recovery of Weatherford will be on site at the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center and the South Arlington Police Service Center on Oct. 26 to provide two free doses of naloxone to residents as requested. Naloxone is an over-the-counter medicine that rapidly reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Residents visiting those two police stations during the Drug Take Back event can also register for a chance to win one of four free prescription drug lock boxes donated to the City of Arlington by Cook Children’s in an effort to prevent children from accessing prescription medications. Those who request naloxone or who enter the raffle do not have to drop off expired or unwanted prescription medications to participate.

Year-Round Prescription Drug Disposal

Did you know that select Walgreens pharmacies have permanent drug disposal kiosks available year-round? Along with prescription drugs, used and unused medications of any sort can be discarded in the disposal boxes at these Arlington locations:
