Buena Vista - West Arlington cleanup

Volunteer partners, residents and city staff worked together in a community cleanup of the Buena Vista – West neighborhood on Saturday, March 23, and this neighborhood is 2.05 tons (4,100 pounds) cleaner.

A total of four properties received special assistance from the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) with tree limbs hanging too low over sidewalks and streets trimmed, trash and debris removed, and more.

As of this event, NET has removed almost 150 tons (299,700 pounds) of waste from Arlington residential neighborhoods with the assistance of community partners and volunteers.

One Spanish speaking resident, reported to have been having health issues, stated he was very appreciative of the help that the city provided him, in his time of need.

Community outreach at the block party was successful with Community Advocating for Prosperity (CAPO) representative David Jackson giving away 237 free books. Melissa Walker, the city’ environmental education specialist with the Public Works department gave away 30 stormwater bags and 40 pairs of gloves. Quyen Nguyen, solid waste & recycling coordinator from the city’s Asset Management department, handed out 51 free recycling bags at the event. The Police and Fire departments were also represented, answering questions and being of service at the block party.

The tool sharing trailer checked out a variety of eight tools to aid volunteers and city staff with their cleanup efforts. The tool sharing program is free for Arlington residents, with door-step delivery and pickup of borrowed tools to assist with residential property cleanup, enhancement and maintenance.
