More than 65 Brighton Estates neighbors flocked to the block party hosted by the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) on July 18, 2024, to socialize, learn about city services, volunteer opportunities, community partner offerings, to enjoy refreshments and have a good time.

City Council Representative Raul H. Gonzalez mingled with residents’ and all in attendance in support of the neighborhood, Council District 2 and the community.

The NET initiative was launched in 2019, in support of City Council’s priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods. The NET hosts neighborhood cleanup events and block parties to engage with residents and improve the appearance and quality of life in neighborhoods across The American Dream City.

To date, over 156 tons (312,900 pounds) of waste and debris has been removed from the community through NET’s volunteer-based program. In support of cleaner neighborhoods, more than 400 volunteers have participated in 18 cleanup events citywide to help achieve a Clean Arlington.

Residents climbed aboard Arlington Police Department’s amazing GameUp 5-0 Gaming Trailer for family-friendly video games. GameUp 5-0 offers a variety of games, including a racing simulator and virtual reality system, all made possible by a generous grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Target.

Community partner, David Jackson with Community Advocating for Prosperity and Opportunity (CAPO) gave away 219 free books to attendees. Since partnering with NET, Jackson has provided more than 1,200 free books to the community at NET neighborhood events.

The City’s mobile tool sharing trailer was present, with staff sharing information about this free and convenient service for Arlington residents. Be watching for news about this growing program and how it is serving the community with door-step delivery of tools and equipment for residents’ use in property cleanup and maintenance.
