Reopen and Recover Update

Earlier this week, Gov. Greg Abbott announced the first phase of the State of Texas’ ongoing plan to safely and strategically open Texas while minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

That means starting this Friday, May 1, restaurants, retail and other select businesses in Arlington will begin reopening to the public in a limited fashion following these guidelines.

Under Abbott’s first phase, all retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, malls, museums and libraries will be permitted to reopen at no more than 25% of their listed occupancy. If the state does not see an increase in COVID-19 cases during the slow reopening of the economy, Abbott said those businesses could begin operating at up to a 50 percent occupancy and additional types of businesses may be allowed to reopen to the public as early as May 18.

As part of the City of Arlington’s Roadmap to Reopen and Recovery, the Arlington Fire Department is providing businesses with signs that are designed to guide customers and employees on how to remain in compliance with Abbott’s latest executive orders and help protect public health during the coronavirus outbreak.

These signs include messaging that calls for social distancing standards, for sick employees and customers to stay home, and for businesses to conduct regular cleanings and use protective equipment and have protective measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“We need our businesses and the public to follow the guidance that has been provided, which includes avoiding crowds, practicing good hygiene and not exposing others when you are sick," Fire Chief Don Crowson said. "These measures will help prevent the spread of this devastating disease, protect the health of our community, and allow our businesses large and small to reopen sooner.”
