The Arlington Public Library is excited to be one of Book Riot's 13 Awesome Children's Libraries around the U.S.! Book Riot featured the children's section of the new George W. Hawkes Downtown Library in their list. This bright, colorful space was designed with children in mind, with welcoming seating, an interactive art installation, and picture books shelved at a child's eye level.

Book Riot features fun pictures of the Downtown Library's Discover Wall, an interactive art installation that begs children to explore. Each letter has a unique feature, from cushioned reading nooks to a light-up exclamation mark. Visit the library any day to see kids measuring their height on a giant ruler, investigating an art-filled display case, or enjoying a book while sitting in a giant, see-through globe.

The Discover wall isn't the only feature to grab a child's attention. The Children's Book Neighborhood is designed for all children, infants through "tween-agers", and their families or caregivers. Picture books are stored facing forward in low shelves that were custom-designed at a child's height. Books are arranged by theme to help children find the theme they want. Whether a child wants to read about dogs, pirates, or weather, they'll find all their favorites together. More advanced readers can browse rows of chapter books and non-fiction.

Since children learn through play, this space also offers lots of toys, games, life-size blocks, and other tools for discovery. From developmentally appropriate toys for babies and toddlers to collaborative gaming systems for older children, there is something for every child. Stop by the children's section at your next visit to the Downtown Library and see why it's among the nation's best!
