Congratulations to Wynn Winberg for the I Love Arlington pic of the week of a beautiful summer sunset at Lake Arlington.

Have you heard the story behind Lake Arlington? In 1954 Arlington had 40,000 residents and water was in short supply. Droughts in previous years forced city leaders to call a bond election for the construction of a lake. Construction began in 1957 as the drought continued. With limited assets and a projected finish date of 2 years, the project was considered by some to be a folly. Nearly one year later Arlington Water Superintendent Jack Cherry closed the last valve of the newly constructed dam and the rains came! The 15 billion gallon lake that was supposed to take two years to fill was full in 27 days and it became known as "Miracle Lake."
