Animal Services Helps

Arlington city officials and members from the Animal Services Center helped give a warm welcome to Pet Supermarket as they opened their first Texas location on Saturday. There were free giveaways, low-cost veterinarian services a pet fashion show, and a visit from the new Animal Services Mobile Pet Adoption vehicle.

"We had a soft opening on December 19, but today is our official grand opening," said Pet Supermarket District Manager Mike Stuart. Pet Supermarket has 140 locations nationwide, mostly in the southeast.

The Arlington location, at the corner of North Fielder Road and West Randol Mill Road, is the first in Texas with other locations in Hurst and Dallas opening in the coming months. "We're very excited about being in Arlington and partnering with the city to help adopt out animals," said Stuart. "For us, it's all about the well-being of animals and any time we can help adopt those animals out, that's what we're here for."

The city's new mobile pet adoption vehicle, which was purchased last year with funds from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, allows the Animal Services staff to bring adoptable pets to events such as this one. "Our adoption rate using the vehicle is very high, around 90 to 100 percent," said Animal Services Manager Chris Huff."We will be using it to come to Pet Supermarket the fourth Saturday of every month with adoptable pets." The city also has a cat adoption center inside the store where adoptable cats are available at any time.
