Arlington Fire Department and Arlington ISD received a Texas Education Partnership award Tuesday during the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) Luncheon and Annual Meeting in Austin.

The AFD/AISD Fire Academy was named the TAPE Partnership Gold Award winner in the Partnership Program Innovation category, beating out 65 other nominees. This two-year program, which features classroom and field training to prepare students in fire service careers, began in 2011.

AISD student Thomas P. Andress, Jr. won a Crystal Award in the Individual Wisdom category.

TAPE provides leadership and expertise for schools, families, businesses and communities to build partnerships that enhance student success. Each year TAPE recognizes exemplary partners and partnership programs across the state.

Award winners are selected based upon criteria established by the TAPE Board of Directors, with emphasis on impact and measured change in student progress and outcomes.
