UT Arlington takes a three-game winning streak into Tuesday night's Sun Belt Conference opener against Georgia Southern. Tip is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at College Park Center.

The Mavericks finished the nonconference portion of the regular season with a 6-4 record. UTA has posted a winning nonconference record three times in the last four seasons.

After playing in three different conferences in the previous three seasons, the Mavericks are finally in the same league in back-to-back years. UTA has gone a combined 35-17 in league play over those three years and finished in the top half of the conference each time.

The Mavs were 15-1 in the Southland in 2011-12 to win the conference's regular-season title. UTA went 11-7 in its lone WAC season (2012-13) to tie for fourth place and 9-9 last season in the Sun Belt, tying for fifth.

UTA is 3-2 all-time against Georgia Southern, but 0-2 as Sun Belt opponents. The Eagles (7-2) own the Sun Belt's best winning percentage going into league play. The Mavericks are 0-1 in Sun Belt openers, losing 82-66 to Arkansas State last season.

The league opener comes after a season-long 10-day break. UT Arlington defeated Howard Payne 89-50 on Dec. 20, with guard Jamel Outler scoring a game-high 17. Forward Brandon Williams had a career-high six blocks, plus set season highs in points (9) and rebounds (8). The 39-point margin of victory was the largest since beating Howard Payne 111-64 last season.

UTA coach Scott Cross used same starting lineup in first six games before changing it in each of the last four games. No UTA student-athlete has started all 10 games, but 12 Mavericks are averaging at least 11 minutes per game.

Outler leads the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game. Guard Lonnie McClanahan is averaging 10.2 points despite coming off the bench in eight games.
