Past and present friends and patrons of the George W. Hawkes Central Library are invited to Turning a Page: A New Chapter of Arlington's Central Library on Saturday, December 13, 2-6 p.m. This is an opportunity for the public to celebrate the history, experience the present, and imagine the future of the Central Library.

This event will celebrate the legacy of the George W. Hawkes Central Library and encourage all participants to start envisioning the bright future of Arlington's new Central library. Children will experience the history of the library through theatrical vignettes. Attendees will have the chance to create and take home a personal keepsake of the Central library at a flipbook creation booth. Tours of the library's mysterious back rooms, a library scavenger hunt, live music, and refreshments are all part of the afternoon's activities.

Dewberry Architecture will host an onsite design charrette during the event to invite public input about the new Central library design. The charrette will be an opportunity for the public to find out more about the construction of the new central library and offer thoughts on the project.

More information is available on the Central Library Project web page at http://webapps.arlingtontx.gov/tmp/centrallibrary/. This site will offer construction updates, answers to frequently asked questions, calendar events, library history, special features and fascinating vintage photos.
