The event aims to show the softer side of the misunderstood breed on October 26, 2013.

The month of October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and Saturday, October 26th is National Pit Bull Awareness Day. Arlington Animal Services is hoping to bring awareness to the often feared, misunderstood dog breed with special shelter activities, including a pit bull fashion show.

The event will kick off on at 1:00pm in the Arlington Animal Services community room on Saturday with Turtle's Story. Turtle, a Facebook darling, is a female pit bull who was rescued from Arlington Animal Services when she was two years-old and only eleven pounds. Her owner, Kristie Miller, will represent RespectABull, Inc by teaching attendees about pit bulls and sharing Turtle's heartwarming story.

The much-anticipated Parade of Pretty Pitties will take place in the grassy area outside the shelter at 2:00pm. Arlington Animal Services alumni pit bulls will be dressed in their finery for this special event. The fashion show intends to show the softer side of pit bulls. The Pit Bull Awareness Day celebration event will wrap with a pit bull-themed Jeopardy game in the community room, where attendees will have the chance to win prizes and show off what they've learned.

Those serious about adopting a pit bull are invited to attend the Responsible Pit Bull Ownership Class in the Arlington Animal Services community room on Friday, October 25th from 6:00-8:00pm. All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance that will entitle them to a $25 adopting fee for any pit bull mix through Halloween.

Arlington Animal Services invites media to attend the event. Photography is welcome. Turtle and other well-behaved pit bulls are available for media coverage prior to the event. For press inquiries, please contact Katherine Rose Watson, [email protected], 817-344-1966.
