Chelesa Calkins Selected as Arlington’s First ‘Student-Athlete of the Month’

Chelesa Calkins, a sophomore wrestler at Lamar High School in Arlington, has been selected as the City of Arlington's first Student-Athlete of the Month.

Calkins, an honor roll student, currently carries a 3.94 overall GPA on 4.0 scale. As a freshman, Calkins earned the Best Academic and Freshman of the Year awards from the Lamar High School athletic department. She was equally impressive on the mat, finishing fourth in the District 3 Tournament as a freshman.

With academic and community responsibilities as well, Calkins has been doing a balancing act for years. Hear Chelsea's story about wrestling her toughest opponent to date.

The City of Arlington launched the"Student-Athlete of the Month" award program to honor students who set a positive example of leadership through academics and athletics in their communities.
