Arlington Elementary School Student Wins Ruthe Jackson Youth Leadership Award

Arlington' s very own Lauren Hammonds won first place in the elementary school category in the distinguished Ruthe Jackson Youth Leadership Award. The award recognizes the outstanding efforts made by youth whose accomplishments are bringing about cleaner, more beautiful campuses, parks and communities, thus making Texas a better place to live.

A nature enthusiast, Lauren' s love of the outdoors has been evident since her toddler years. Always the first to go outdoors and the last to come inside, Lauren has become an avid birding enthusiast and supports her family with raising their five backyard urban chickens and maintaining a butterfly garden, fruit trees, a sunflower fort and an edible garden. Most recently Lauren received a scholarship from the Metro Beekeeper' s Association to learn the art of beekeeping
