New Police Chief is Sworn-In to Serve

Police Chief, joining a legacy of world class leaders who have served the community with honor and distinction.

Chief Johnson has held numerous executive policing positions in Arlington since 2007, including deputy police chief, assistant police chief and most recently as interim police chief.

The swearing-in ceremony at the Arlington Convention Center drew a large gathering of community supporters, including elected officials from the City Council and Arlington Independent School District. The audience also included members of the Arlington Police Department family, citizen volunteers and police executives from the around the region, including Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Azle, and the Tarrant County College District.

City Manager Trey Yelverton thanked Chief Johnson for his service, innovation and commitment to a safer city.

"Thank you for this opportunity,' Chief Johnson said. "To community groups, businesses and stakeholders, government exists for you. To the men and women of the Arlington Police Department, I will always work to protect the integrity of the department. It is a privilege and an honor to stand and serve you.'

Today's Police Chief swearing-in ceremony was a history-making moment for the city. Mayor Robert Cluck recognized Deputy City Manager Theron Bowman for his outstanding leadership over the past decade as the baton was passed to Chief Johnson.
