Come see the Dirt Doctor at Arlington City Hall on Saturday, June 15, from 9;00 a.m. to noon, and enjoy tours and demonstrations about smart landscaping for water conservation and natural beauty. Howard Garrett is popularly known as The Dirt Doctor through his books, website and nationally syndicated radio talk show. He has taught thousands of gardeners how to landscape and garden using organic methods. Plants of the Metroplex by Howard Garrett is one among many perennial favorite titles on every local gardener' s bookshelf.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Arlington Water Utilities staff will conduct tours of the low water usage demonstration gardens in the downtown area. They will also demonstrate irrigation methods and how to build a rain barrel. Sponsors will provide information, giveaways, and door prizes.

Howard Garrett will speak at 10:30 a.m. on the basics of organic gardening, including information on saving water, composting and the use of native plants in local landscapes. Following the lecture, he will take questions from the audience, and will sign copies of his book, The Organic Manual, New & Revised. A portion of the proceeds from books sales will go to the Arlington Public Library Foundation. Registration is not required, but please arrive early for best seating.
