Extended delays have already begun in certain parts of the city, but it's evident that many drivers are seeking alternate routes to help minimize gridlock during the Union Pacific Track Renewal Project.

Drivers also have an additional rail crossing to use, thanks to Bowen Road being closed for a four-hour period on Thursday, January 17, instead of a few days. At press time, the exact timing of the closure has yet to be determined.

Keith Melton, Director of Public Works and Transportation, said Union Pacific heard the city's concerns about the simultaneous closures.

" Arlington is a bit unique because we have so many crossings in such a short length,' said Melton. " Union Pacific was willing to do what it could to help minimize the impact of this project, so they've come up with an alternative to keep Bowen Road open, except for that short period of time.'

The track at Bowen Road was originally scheduled to be replaced as part of the renewal. It will be replaced at a later date which has yet to be determined by Union Pacific.
