William Shakespeare fans are invited to the first round of the National Shakespeare Competition being held Saturday, February 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Arlington Branch, 4000 West Green Oaks Boulevard. The English-Speaking Union of the United States is hosting this competition for area high school students.

Competitors will choose a Shakespearean sonnet and monologue, memorize the selections, and perform them in front of judges. Presentations are being evaluated by how well the participants understand the piece, his/her ability to communicate them, and the artistic reciting skills.

The winner of our event will go on to compete in Fort Worth and, if selected again, will have the chance to advance to competitions in New York and then London!
