Beginning Wednesday, August 14, construction will begin on the Kelly Elliott Road Bridge over Interstate 20 in Arlington to provide a pedestrian walkway along the bridge. The project is a joint effort between the City and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to make the overpass/bridge safer, especially for school children who have to cross the bridge routinely to attend Martin High School.

According to TxDOT, the overpass will be closed to traffic for three nights from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via SW Green Oaks Blvd.and Park Springs Blvd. Drivers may experience traffic delays both on the I-20 main lanes and on Kelly Elliott Road because of intermittent construction activities before school begins in August.

Weather permitting, construction is anticipated to be complete by the time school begins on August 26, 2013. The pedestrian walkway will be on the west side of the bridge with an eight-foot tall chain link fence mounted to the bridge railing, and a concrete barrier will also be installed for additional safety.

The City of Arlington and TxDOT appreciate the patience of motorists, and encourage attention to all warning signs within the construction work zone while crews work diligently to complete this project as quickly and as safely as possible.
