Arlington PD Releases Dash Camera, Body Camera Footage from Shooting Incident at Dealership
The Arlington Police Department is publicly releasing relevant portions of the dashboard camera and body-worn camera video from the September 28, 2023 shooting incident that occurred at a local car dealership.

On Thursday, September 28, 2023, at approximately 6:24 p.m., 25-year-old Abbas Al-Mutairy pulled into the parking lot of a car dealership in the 1100 block of W. Interstate 20 armed with a rifle.
Through the course of their investigation, detectives learned that Mr. Al-Mutairy is a former employee of the dealership who had recently been terminated.
Minutes after he arrived, he exited his vehicle and fired multiple shots at the lobby of the dealership, which was full of employees and customers at the time. As those employees and customers attempted to flee from the building, Mr. Al-Mutairy briefly entered the dealership and a service bay before returning to the parking lot near his parked vehicle.
The Arlington Police Department was dispatched to the dealership at 6:31 p.m. The first officers arrived on scene at approximately 6:36 p.m. They immediately located Mr. Al-Mutairy in the parking lot holding the rifle in a low ready position, took strategic cover, and then engaged him. Three officers fired their service weapons, striking Mr. Al-Mutairy. He was down and the scene was secure by 6:38 p.m.
There were still several people inside the dealership when officers arrived on scene. Based on their investigation, detectives believe Mr. Al-Mutairy pointed the rifle in the direction of the responding officers.
Mr. Al-Mutairy was transported to an area hospital where he continues to receive medical treatment. He is currently listed in critical condition. He has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and one count of Deadly Conduct.
No officers were injured and no employees or customers at the dealership were injured.
“I truly believe this incident could have ended much differently and more tragically than it did,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “I’m extremely relieved it did not. I’m also incredibly grateful that no officers or innocent bystanders were injured.”
Criminal and administrative investigations into the incident are ongoing. The department will have additional comment once the investigations are complete.

On Thursday, September 28, 2023, at approximately 6:31 p.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to a car dealership, located in the 1100 block of W. Interstate 20, to investigate reports that an armed man was in the parking lot firing shots at the building.
When officers arrived on scene, they immediately located the suspect in the parking lot and engaged him. Based on the suspect’s actions, multiple officers fired their service weapons, striking the suspect. He was transported to an area hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment. At this time, we do not have an update on his condition.
Through the course of their investigation, detectives learned the suspect is a former employee of the dealership who was recently terminated.
No officers were injured.
There were multiple employees and customers at the dealership when the suspect arrived and began shooting. None of them were injured.
As is standard anytime an officer fires their service weapon, two investigations will take place:
- A criminal investigation to review the entire incident.
- An administrative investigation to determine whether officers followed all department policies and procedures when they fired their service weapons.
