Arlington Water Utilities has 216 full-time staff positions and operates on an annual budget of nearly $150 million. News in the year-end round up includes:

• In November 2021, City of Arlington officials kicked off a nearly $112.5 million improvements project at the Pierce-Burch Water Treatment Plant. The construction will be the largest plant rehabilitation project in the history of the Arlington Water Utilities treatment division.

• In 2021, Arlington Water Utilities won the Annual Best Tasting Surface Water State Award from the Texas Water Utilities Association for the third time. Industry professionals judged water samples from the four regions of the state represented during the Association’s 103rd Annual School in Corpus Christi in September.

• More than 82,400 Arlington Water Utilities customers had remotely read water meters as of January 2022, with more new meters being installed each month. During the February 2021 winter storm, Arlington Water Utilities staff turned to the City of Arlington’s network of remotely read water meters to help find water line breaks and aid in the community-wide recovery.

• Following the February 2021 winter storm, Arlington Water Utilities made billing changes to help customers who may have experienced higher than their average water usage due to plumbing, fire suppression or irrigation line breaks to their homes or businesses or dripping faucets to prevent freezing pipes. In the months after the storm, the City of Arlington provided Winter Storm Recovery Credits on the bills of about 50,000 eligible customers, totaling over $1.5 million.
