Here are a few ways you can enjoy your weekend in The American Dream City. 

Bug Squad: Created by Omaha Children’s Museum

Immerse yourself into an imaginative world where insects don’t just have super abilities… they are superheroes! Meet the Bug Squad this fall at River Legacy Nature Center, this visiting exhibit features talking animatronic members of the Bug Squad. Guests will learn about each of their superhero stories, super abilities, and the unique traits they use each day. It runs through Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. Wicked Threads: The Artistry of Costume in Oz AND Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition at the Arlington Museum of Art

Following the release of the highly anticipated film, the Arlington Museum of Art will debut a collection of costumes from Wicked (2024) celebrating the artistry of the costume design and twenty-one years of the beloved Broadway musical Wicked. The Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition will feature a collection of larger-than-life images taken by Diana’s trusted friend and Official Royal Photographer, the late Anwar Hussein, as well as his sons Samir and Zak. Each image will be accompanied by first-hand accounts of the stories behind the world-famous moments, told through an in-depth audio guide.

Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Children’s Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library for a playfully discover the world around us! Tottie Lynn Play Days 

Come join the Arlington Parks & Recreation Department for a festive event filled with fun crafts and activities 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center. This come-and-go event is designated for those five years old & under. All participants are to be escorted by a guardian 18 years or older. Click here to register. 

Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. Paint & Sip 

Calling all art enthusiasts, parents looking for a date night, and Bob Ross lovers! The Arlington Parks & Recreation Department will have refreshments and mocktails for you to snack on while you follow a guided painting lesson 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 at the East Library and Recreation Center. Artini Night: Hanging Pine Cone Craft

Head to River Legacy Nature Center 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, for an evening of fun and crafting. Led by Dr. Ellen Ravkind, this 21 event features snacks, drinks, and a guided pine cone decoration workshop. Admission is $25, and all materials are provided. The Taylor Swift Experience

Sing along to “Shake It Off,” “Love Story,” and all your favorite Taylor Swift hits as the ultimate Taylor Swift tribute show takes the stage at Texas Live! Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025. This performance brings the energy, heart, and iconic songs of the music superstar to life. The Arlington Music Hall has a shows you can enjoy starting 8:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, it’s Glen Templteon, then it’s a double feature Saturday Jan. 25, 2025, starting at 2 p.m., it’s Endless Summer - America's Beach Boys Experience, and then 8 p.m., it’s Vaughan vs Hendrix Featuring Texas Flood. Fish Creek Cleanup Challenge 

The Fish Creek Cleanup Challenge is seeking volunteers to collect discarded cans, glass and plastic bottles, paper and other debris littering the banks of the southeast Arlington creek. The opening ceremony and safety briefing for volunteers on the Arlington side will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at Cravens Park. The cleanup is a family friendly event and there is no minimum age to participate. Much of the trash is lightweight, such as plastic bags, Styrofoam cups and paper. Volunteers are invited to clean up litter anywhere along Fish Creek, Fish Creek Linear Trail, and the parks and schools that are along it. Place bagged trash on the paved trail so Arlington Parks & Recreation Department employees can collect and add the bags to large trash containers that will be weighed at the end of the cleanup. Plunge & Pancakes 

Join the Arlington Parks & Recreation Department for Plunge & Pancakes, where brave souls take a thrilling polar plunge at Woodland West Pool and warm up afterward with a delicious pancake breakfast! It takes place 9-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2025. Click here to register!

APL Tech Fair 

Join for an exciting day of innovation and discovery at the Arlington Public Library's Tech Fair 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s [re]Brary Room A & B. This event showcases the cutting-edge technology available through the library, from 3D printers and vinyl cutters in our Makerspace to digitization equipment in our genealogy services. Learn about digital literacy classes with the Adult Education department and explore the world of robotics with the Children's Department. Get a close-up look at drones from the Arlington Police Department Aviation team and see how the Arlington Water Department uses high-tech cameras to inspect the city's water pipes. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or just curious, this is a great opportunity to see how technology is shaping our community!

Silent Book Club 

The book club with no assigned reading and no pressure! They meet once a month at local spots around Arlington & Grand Prairie to read, drink, and be in community with other bookworms. Bring any book you choose, enjoy some refreshments, and stay for optional socializing just before and after the reading time. Meetup location is the Live! by Loews hotel located at 1600 E Randol Mill Rd, Arlington, TX 76011, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025. You will meetup in the lobby and free parking is available in the Texas Live parking lot.

Creature Features: Mexican Red-knee Tarantula and Goliath Bird Eater Tarantula

Join for this month’s Creature Features at River Legacy Nature Center. Get to know our Mexican redknee tarantula and our Goliath birdeater tarantula learn about their adaptations, behavior, lifestyle, natural history, etc. RSVP is required. Limited spaces available. Participants will receive an e-mail or phone call from the naturalist facilitating the event prior to event to confirm attendance. Teens Give Back

Teens, join the Arlington Public Library at the Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch for a chance to give back to the community! The event takes place 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025. Come to make seasonal cards and gifts for seniors who partake in Books on Wheels, the library's outreach service for residents who live in select senior housing facilities. Supplies will be provided. Lunar New Year Musical Presentation

Join the Arlington Public Library for a special musical presentation celebrating Lunar New Year by famous soloist and violinist Xiao Hua Sheng, a professor at the Nanjing University of Arts. It takes place 2:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s [re]Brary Room A. It is presented by the Spectrum Chamber Music Society.

Family Vision Board 

Join for a fun and creative Family Vision Board event 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s [re]Brary Room A & B. Bring your loved ones together to set goals, share dreams, and craft a visual roadmap for your future. Supplies and guiding questions are provided—just bring your imagination and teamwork! Leave inspired, connected, and ready to consciously make your vision a reality! No registration required. Hosted in partnership with Just a Queen with Goals Nonprofit. 

Sunday Brunch

Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon French toast and served with maple syrup!
