The Arlington Tennis Center’s clubhouse now offers larger, more modern restrooms to better serve its patrons as part of a recently completed $1.1 million renovation project.
The City-owned center, located in south Arlington at 500 W. Mayfield Road, has always been a high-use facility, regularly hosting regional and national tournaments ranging in size from 200 to 400 players, leagues, and classes. The facility received a 2022 USTA Outstanding Facility Award – Public Courts Division (Large Tennis Center).
The main goal of the renovations, which began this past May, was to expand the men’s and women’s restrooms, which were part of the original construction. Improvements include:
- sanitary sewer system work
- four additional urinals and four toilets in the men’s restroom
- nine additional toilets in the women’s restroom
- baby changing stations in both restrooms
- new flooring and shower units
- a new lavatory with full-width mirror and purse ledge in the women’s restroom
- new flooring, storage and merchandise displays in the Pro Shop
- replacement of the center’s HVAC
- exterior trim work in areas where it had degraded
“These improvements will help us to better meet the needs of our customers,” said James Orloski, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Arlington. “January 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Arlington Tennis Center, and we’re excited to be able to make these improvements in advance of this milestone.”
The Arlington City Council approved a construction contract with Morales Construction Services, Inc., an MWBE firm from Mansfield, in March 2024, and a professional services contract for the renovation work with LBL Architects, Inc., of Arlington, in June 2023. Morales Construction Services agreed to meet the 18.26% goal for MWBE participation in the project set by the City’s Office of Business Diversity.
The Arlington Tennis Center features 20 lighted outdoor tennis courts and eight lighted outdoor pickleball courts. Call the Arlington Tennis Center at 817-459-6163 today to reserve a court or register for programs.
