Create Texas, a nonprofit supporting artists and musicians, along with arts advocate Mark Joeckel, has been selected to curate the public sculpture selection process for a groundbreaking multigenerational housing development in Arlington. The organization will oversee the Request for Proposals (RFP) and the commissioning of four sculptures to be installed throughout the housing development community.
The development, designed to foster intergenerational connections through innovative urban planning and public art integration, is located at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Arbrook Boulevard near the Arlington Highlands shopping center. The proposed sculptures will serve as focal points, celebrating themes of community, creativity, and progress.
Call for Artists – First Sculpture Commission ($75,000 Budget)
The first artist call invites sculptors to submit proposals for a 15-20-foot outdoor sculpture that will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. The work must be durable and withstand Texas weather conditions. Artists from all backgrounds and artistic styles are encouraged to apply. The winning piece will be commissioned for installation within eight months.

"This project is a powerful opportunity to integrate public art into a forward-thinking residential space," said Mark Joeckel, founder of Create Texas. "We are excited to engage artists in shaping a community that values both connection and artistic expression."
