School Zone on Kelly Elliott Road Near Patterson Elementary Extended for Longer Periods Effective Immediately, Will Continue Through 2022-2023 School Year
Drivers should be aware that the school zone on Kelly Elliott Road near Kennedale ISD’s Patterson Elementary School will be in effect for longer periods of time each weekday starting this week and continuing through the 2022-2023 school year.
On April 12, the Arlington City Council approved extending the school zone times by 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon at the request of Kennedale ISD. The district sought to extend the school zone to cover the pick-up and drop-off times for Arthur Intermediate School 5th graders who are temporarily attending classes at Patterson while their campus is undergoing repairs.
Now, the school zone will now be in effect on Kelly Elliott Road near Cypress Springs Drive from 7:15 a.m. through 8:45 a.m. and from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. These extended school zone times are expected to be in effect near Patterson Elementary through the 2022-2023 school year.
When lights in school zones are activated, remember:
1. Slow down. All vehicles should travel at or below the posted speed limit.
2. It is against the law to use a cell phone in a school zone.
3. Focus on the road. Avoid distractions inside your vehicle.
4. On the roadway, it is illegal to pass a school bus when the stop sign and flashing red lights are displayed when picking up or dropping off students.
5. Follow directions from crossing guards at crosswalks
Pedestrians should always use sidewalks and only cross roadways at marked crosswalks or traffic lights. Never run or dash quickly into the street, officers say.
