Today, the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation (NMOHMF) celebrated a major milestone in its construction of the National Medal of Honor Museum with the placement of the building’s final steel beam. The beam was signed by NMOHMF team members, construction workers, donors, supporters and community members before it was put into place during the “Topping Out” ceremony at the construction site.

“Through their acts of valor and selfless commitment to our nation, each Medal of Honor recipient is an American hero,” said NMOHMF President and CEO Chris Cassidy. “By telling their stories, this Museum will help preserve their extraordinary legacy and inspire future generations to live by the values the Medal represents and recipients so nobly demonstrated.”

Today’s ceremony represented a watershed moment in the Museum’s construction, which began in March 2022 with a historic groundbreaking ceremony attended by 15 Medal of Honor recipients, former President George W. Bush, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark A. Milley, and hundreds of other honored guests. During the groundbreaking, President Bush noted that the Museum would ensure the values represented by the Medal and its recipients – courage and sacrifice, commitment and integrity, citizenship and patriotism – are “preserved, protected and passed on to future generations.”

The Museum is scheduled to be completed in early 2025 and will contain more than 100,000 square feet of space, with 31,000 square feet of that area dedicated to Exhibition Galleries telling the history of the Medal of Honor and the stories of the American heroes who earned it. The Museum also will have dedicated spaces for classrooms, meeting venues, symposiums, memorials and ceremonies.

“The Medal of Honor represents the best of America. This museum will pay tribute to those who have sacrificed so much in defense of our republic, and we at Linbeck Group are very honored to be a part of this historic project,” said David Stueckler, President and CEO of Linbeck Group.
