Arlington residents can borrow a power washer for free? And it is delivered to my home at no charge? These were just two of many questions asked about the City’s Tool Sharing Program by Arlington’s Active Adults at the EngAGE Arlington breakfast get together at the Skillet N’ Grill Café on Aug. 20, 2024.

Arlington’s energetic Recreation Program Manager, Susie Traylor, leads these active adults, ages 50 and up, with fun social activities in and out of town. Many in the group will be joining her on an upcoming adventure to Grand Canyon National Park.

As Traylor introduced Senior Code Compliance officer’s Curtis Jones and Robert Rodriguez to approximately 50 attendees, she talked about City Council’s Priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods and how the tool sharing program supports this important priority.

Since the mobile tool sharing program began in February 2021, over 1,100 reservations have been completed, with door-step delivery of more than 3,600 tools. The most popular tools borrowed are push mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, pole saws and power washers. It is estimated that, to date, almost 1,200 code violations have been averted because of this convenient and innovative program.

Several attendees at the breakfast were surprised but very happy to hear about this free program serving Arlington residents. They wanted to know more about the different types of tools to borrow, and how to sign up.

Other equipment, such as kits for fence repair and painting, wheelbarrows, and more are available through an online form. Requests are submitted, with a response within 48 hours, and requested tools may be borrowed for up to three days. Door-step delivery of available tools occurs on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays’. The program has become so popular that a second tool sharing trailer is being introduced soon to increase service delivery and availability of tools for Arlington residents.

One of the next stops on the promotional tour for the mobile tool sharing program will be at the upcoming Aging Well Expo for adults ages 50+ being held at Esports Stadium Arlington & Expo Center at 1200 Ballpark Way, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Click here to register and get more details.
