East Arlington Police Station Parking Lots Among Latest City Facilities to Transition to LED Lighting

Parking lots at the East Arlington Police Service Center are a bit brighter for employees and visitors this month as part of City’s ongoing efforts to transition to energy-saving LED light bulbs.
Arlington’s Asset Management crews have retrofitted more than 100 lights in public facility parking lots across the city from metal halide to LED over the past three years, including 23 lights at the East police station on New York Avenue. The LED bulbs provide better light quality, last longer and reduce the City’s maintenance costs, said Joe Bowman, Asset Management facility services manager. The LED lights also save the City an estimated 50% on energy costs.
In 2023, Asset Management crews also replaced parking lot lighting with LED fixtures in the Front Street public parking lot north of the George W. Hawkes Central Library, the North Park and Ride parking lot and at the South Service Center on Southwest Green Oaks Boulevard. Crews previously improved lighting at the South Police District Service Center, the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest branch library locations and City Hall. This list of improvements does not include the LED lighting that has been installed by Parks and Recreation Department at its public facility parking lots.
Asset Management’s parking lot lighting improvements, made as funding is available, align with the City Council priority to Leverage Technology.
