Emergency Home Repair Grant

Are you dealing with a sewer line break, broken air conditioner or other emergency home repair needs? Low-income residents may be eligible for assistance to get those problems fixed through the Arlington Housing Authority’s Emergency Repair Grant Program.

Based on available funding, the Emergency Repair Grant for Homeowners provides low-income homeowners with a one-time grant, up to $10,000 per three-year period, for emergency repairs to their home. An emergency is a situation or condition that occurred recently without warning, is detrimental to or a threat to life, health, or safety, and requires immediate action.

Examples of eligible repairs include but are not limited to:

  • Air conditioning and heating units
  •  Plumbing
  •  Electrical

Recently, the Arlington Housing Authority was able to help an older couple to replace their nonworking air conditioning system with a new, energy-efficient model, a family replace a broken water heater, and another family replace a broken sewer line in their front yard.

The program is funded by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants received by the City of Arlington.

 Eligibility

Applicants must own and reside in the home, which must be within the Arlington city limits. Program participants must be current on their property taxes and their total household income must not exceed HUD's income limits, which is 80% of the Area Median Income. Emergency repairs on rental properties are not eligible for funding. The home must also not be for sale at the time of the request.
