Everyone gets sick sometimes. When you’re back on your feet and feeling better, you might wonder what to do with any leftover prescriptions. Should you just throw them in the trash? Down the drain, maybe?
Now, Arlington residents who may have waited for the bi-annual “Drug Take-Back” events in Arlington have a few more options. The following Walgreens pharmacies have permanent drug disposal receptacles:
- 3400 Matlock Road 76015
- 2200 East Pioneer Parkway
- 2410 Ballpark Way
- 1116 West Lamar
Along with prescription drugs, used and unused medications of any sort can be discarded in the disposal boxes.
The boxes are a safer option for disposal than keeping expired or unused medications in homes, which could lead to accidental or intentional misuse of the drugs. Throwing prescriptions into the trash could also lead to pets coming in contact with them. In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency discourages flushing of expired or unwanted medications down the toilet or pouring them down the drain, unless the label or accompanying patient information specifically instructs it.
