Sometimes you just want something sweet, like a churro, so in this episode of Arlington Eats, host Jeremy Thomas takes you inside Churro on Top where there's a little ‘oh my goodness, in every bite.’

“This is what the kids say, ‘we're definitely on Instagrammable dessert, the store is Instagrammable, and we are a dessert that looks good and tastes good,” said Anum Khan, owner and operator of Churro on Top.

Located in the Arbrook Oaks Shopping Center, Kahn says sweet tooth lovers can unite at Churro on Top.

“We do have over 30 churros,” she said. “I know it's a lot, but over here in Churro on Top, we like to say there's something for everyone.”

Khan says they make everything fresh, using organic ingredients. 

“We make our churros in-house,” she said. “Strawberry cheesecake is fan favorite. Our red velvet is very popular. We also have something called creme brulé. It's in the name. It's a churro with creme brulé on top.”

What better way to have fresh churros than to pair them with a milkshake?

“And that's pretty much our gourmet churros that go on top of handcrafted milkshakes,” Khan explained. “So, if you order a Panda Panda Milkshake, which is another fan favorite, it is an Oreo and cream milkshake with Oreo churros.”

Khan says the inspiration behind this unique concept was simply a craving.

“And finding out there was nothing in the market to fulfill my craving,” Khan stated. “I was pregnant with our second child, and unfortunately, that, pregnancy, wasn't successful. So after COVID, my husband decided that, we needed to go ahead and fulfill my dream.”

In 2023, Churro on Top opened.

“My husband is from Arlington,” she said. “He lives, breathe, and loves Arlington. Arlington has been very kind to us. And it's not because my husband's been here, and he knows everybody. We were blessed.”

That support for the Khan family puts it all into perspective.

“You worked on something, and I didn't give up after, all those, tragic losses,” Khan explained. “I turned something sad into something happy. that's what I want to teach my daughter, you know, that we got to pick ourselves up and just keep going.”
