The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration will award nearly $1 billion from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to 85 airports across the country, which includes the Arlington Municipal Airport, to improve terminals of all sizes.

The grants aim to expand capacity at the nation’s airport terminals, increase energy efficiency, promote competition and provide greater accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Building better airport terminals will improve customer experiences, move goods through the economy more efficiently to lower prices and enhance U.S. competitiveness.

The Arlington Municipal Airport serves corporate, cargo, flight training and general aviation aircraft and is on pace to see more than 120,000 aircraft operations this fiscal year, Airport Manager Trent Ballard said. The Airport, which will receive a $540,000 federal grant, generates about $236 million in economic impact for the city and accounts for approximately 906 jobs related to airport activity.

“This project will replace aging HVAC infrastructure with more reliable, energy efficient units that will provide comfort and accessibility to our airport users and businesses, while reducing service disruptions,” Ballard said.

The Arlington Municipal Airport’s grant will come from the Airport Terminal Program, one of three aviation programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The law provides $1 billion annually for five years for Airport Terminal grants.

"The work that goes into building safer, more accessible and sustainable terminals will provide opportunities for people across the nation. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a critical investment not only in our nation's infrastructure, but an investment in the future of our country's workforce," FAA Deputy Administrator A. Bradley Mims said in a White House news release.
