Asian Heritage Celebration
Levitt Arlington will once again team up with the Arlington Asian Advisory Council to host the 3rd Annual Asian Heritage Celebration on October 19.
The free event will offer a colorful tapestry of Asian cultures, including more than two dozen captivating music and dance performances, Asian cuisine, vendor booths, and arts and crafts demonstrations representing the beauty and richness of more than 20 Asian nations.
During the celebration, guests will have the opportunity to watch a multi-nation Asian fashion show and experience an array of traditional Asian art forms and cultural practices, such as Chinese calligraphy, chopstick lessons, martial arts displays, Sumo wrestling, and an interactive Chinese knot art and beadworks booth.
Another event highlight will be the Lion Dance, a thrilling performance tradition symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.
Mimi Cheung, event chair and member of the Arlington Asian Advisory Council, said the celebration is an engaging opportunity for people to experience the diversity of Asian cultures. “Many people are not aware that there is a host of Asian nations, each with their own distinct food, art, and traditions,” said Cheung. “Many of these cultures are represented among the population of Arlington, one of the most diverse cities in the country.”
Added Letatia Teykl, executive director of Levitt Arlington: “The Asian Heritage Celebration is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Arlington’s multi-cultural population at Levitt Arlington, a space that celebrates our community's diversity. The Levitt team looks forward to working with the event committee each year, not just because it's fun to plan so many intriguing event performances and demonstrations, but also because we as committee members learn so much from each other. We hope that everyone will turn out this Saturday to enjoy an action-packed evening and the lovely fall weather.”
