One week you see a stray cat roaming in your yard, and the next week, you may see two or even more. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) estimates there are 30 to 40 million community cats in the U.S., and that they are producing about 80% of kittens born each year.

Arlington Animal Services, in a lifesaving partnership with Operation Kindness, is hosting a free event on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, to provide vet services for Arlington’s free-roaming, unowned, community cats.

Spay/neuter, ear tip, FVRCP and rabies vaccine will be given to the first 50 Arlington community cats to be checked-in on the day of the event. This event is for participation by Arlington residents only.

“We have heard our community’s plea for help and assistance when it comes to the feral cat overpopulation problems in our city,” said Michelle Patchett, Animal Services administrative aide. “We are so excited to work with Operation Kindness in what we hope is the first of many spay/neuter clinics to combat this issue!”

Event Information and Requirements:

  • The first 50 Arlington un-owned, free-roaming cats will be accepted.
  • No limits on cats per trapper. First come, first served.
  • Humane traps only. One cat per trap.
  • Traps are required to have name and contact info.
  • Cats in crates will not be accepted.
  • All cats must weigh a minimum of two (2) pounds.

This clinic will be held at the Animal Services Center at 1000 S.E. Green Oaks Blvd. Drop-offs will begin being accepted at 7:30 a.m. with pickups at 4 p.m.

“Operation Kindness has proven to be a true partner and friend to Arlington Animal Services again and again,” said Henry Pena, acting shelter manager. “We are incredibly thankful for their dedication and willingness to help our citizens and the pets who need it most!”
